What is the Difference Between a Rebounder and Mini Trampoline?

Trampolines are made for a variety of uses. The majority are designed for recreational use which don’t quite have the same benefit as rebounders designed for fitness.

If you’re shopping for the best rebounders check out our comparison article. But in this article we are going to look at the difference between a rebounder and a mini trampoline. The main difference between rebounders and mini trampoline is that rebounders are portable and slightly smaller in size. Typically, once mini trampolines are constructed they are left where they are. But because rebounders are designed for fitness, they’re more functional so can be taken with you on the go and stored away.

But let’s look into this in more detail!

What is the difference between a Rebounder and Trampoline?

Rebounders

Rebounders and mini trampolines are very similar but they do have differences. Rebounders are portable and a smaller size than a mini trampoline.

Rebounders are designed to be mobile for you to set anywhere in your home or if you were to travel. They are considered higher quality, the mat on a rebounder is more durable because they are designed for fitness and exercise.

They are built with user friendly designs to make sure they aren’t loud, help prevent injury and provide stability and support while jumping.

Mini Trampolines

Mini Trampolines on the other hand usually stay in one place after they are set up. They aren’t designed for use in fitness, more for recreational use. Because of this they generally have lower quality mats providing less support.

This is the main difference between the rebounder and the mini trampoline, they are not the same – one is used for exercise and the other isn’t. But let’s dive into some other differences between the two.

Difference between Rebounder and Mini Trampoline

Below are some of the main differences between rebounders and mini trampolines. As they come in different shapes, sizes, prices and support weight.

What to look for in a Rebounder

Size

As mention a rebounder is smaller in size than a mini trampoline. Rebounders typically are around 3.5 feet in diameter. A mini trampoline can be as large as 7.5 feet for outdoor use. Due to this size difference the rebounder has a smaller bounce.

Shape

Surprisingly although rebounders are designed for function, they do come in a variety of sizes like a mini trampoline does. They can vary from trapezoid, rectangle or circle.

Support

As rebounders were designed for exercise and fitness use, they offer much more support than mini trampolines. Rebounders can support up to 181kg (400lbs) in comparison to trampolines which support between 45kg – 136kg (100-300lbs).

As mentioned before rebounders are built with a higher quality and more durable mat to cope with the repetitive bounce of an exercise programme.

Price Difference

Both Vary in prices depending on brand and model. The price of a rebounder can be anywhere from £20 – £150 in comparison to a mini trampoline which can be up to £400 with all the bells and whistles.

Health Benefits

Both rebounders and trampolines offer health benefits despite a mini trampoline being used for recreational purposes.

Disease prevention

One unknown benefit of jumping on a trampoline is that it increases lymphatic flow. Jumping up and down repetitively creates a pressure change in the body which works as a vacuum for toxins and bacteria to be sucked out of the body. This results in white blood cells to increase to fight off potential diseases.

Low Impact

Trampolines and rebounders are soft, jumping on both is low impact which are beneficial if you suffer from joint or back pain in comparison to other forms of cardiovascular exercise.

Reduces Fat

Any type of physical activity burns calories. Jumping whether on a rebounder or mini trampoline is a form of aerobic activity. A study by NASA found that jumping or a rebounding exercise is 68% more efficient than jogging.

The same study also reported that spending one on a rebounder hour burns calories than jogging for the same amount of time.

Rebounder vs Mini Trampoline – which is best?

Choosing which is best depends on what you will be using it for. If you are looking to use it for exercise then go for a rebounder, but if it’s for recreation and fun choose a mini trampoline.
